So what do you do

You explore beautifully decorated locations in an effort to find out more about yourself. Most of the gameplay revolves around talking to a wide array of (strange) characters, solving puzzles, and fucKIN LEGGING IT COS SOMETHING STARTED CHASING YOU AAAAAAAAAAAAA

A lot of Pocket Mirror is about the characters you meet, four of them in particular. They're interesting and all have their own areas to explore and stories to uncover, and the game will make sure that no matter how inviting and cute the place you are in looks you always feel a little unnerved.

The game is heavily inspired by Madoka Magica, Rozen Maiden, Ib and other RPG Maker type games such as Omori. For those who are familiar with Madoka, Pocket Mirror feels like you're exploring a witch's maze, I really liked that.

The game is very sparse with revealing its plot with you unless you're reaaaaally thorough. I thought I was, but even after getting four of the six endings I was left with a lot of questions. Turns out I missed some things and on top of that some things are only explained in the games prequel, Goody Two Shoes, which I haven't played... so that annoyed me a little to be honest.

When should I play this game?

Spend some time on Pocket Mirror if:
  • You like classic RPG Maker horror games
  • You're into shows like Madoka Magica or Rozen Maiden
  • You like an aesthetic that combines psychological horror with cute and pretty designs
While I did mention being a little let down by the story I have to add that Pocket Mirror really takes its inspirations and makes them into their own thing, I do recommend it if you like this genre of game.
