I was a Teenage Exocolonist
Summary
You're a child when the spaceship carrying your family and several others crashlands on Vertumna, a planet close to a wormhole where you'll start a new life. But the planet doesn't really want you there.
I was a Teenage Exocolonist website
So what do you do
The year is divided into five seasons, consistent of thirteen months in total, in which you choose how to spend your time to increase your skills and develop your relationship with the other colonists. You start the game at age 11, and the game ends on your twentieth birthday.
You play a simple card game to advance the story in points and decide how well you do at your task every month. You can collect more cards by progressing the story and relationships. Sometimes it's better to do the stupid or bad thing to get a better card. U just gotta decide if you're willing to make that sacrifice.
Oh the game starts with a content warning, I didn't mention that. As I said at the start, the planet does *not* want you on it and it fights tooth and nail to get rid of you. The game deals with death, famine, trauma and many more heavy subjects.
IMO it can get a little hammy with the anti-human message at points but in general I think Exocolonist tackles its subjects well enough to keep you interested. Hell i played it through three times to get the ending i wanted (yes your actions affect the ending and its encouraged you play the game several times, as previous playthroughs impact your new one). Plus when I thought of it as you being an invasive species and how those are treated on earth I thought the tackling of the subject matter was pretty neat
When should I play this game?
Spend some time on I as a Teenage Exocolonist if:
- You like narrative heavy games with a focus on growing up and hardship
- You enjoy maxing out relationships with characters
- You're really into environmentalism lbr
Everything looks like watercolour paintings. I'm a big fan of the artstyle. I don't like the outro song tho rip
