Cos I do that

I used to keep a diary when i was a kid because I didn't want to forget the things I thought were interesting at the time. I kind of expressly wrote them for my future self to remember things. but the things i thought needed to be remembered were names of classmates and if they were nice or not which honestly isn't the most riveting information for an adult version of yourself

Anyway I didn't just make the 12 year old's version of excel sheets on my old school mates I also wrote down anything that happened, i kept some papers from that time if i wanted to save the memory, that sort of stuff. And that's the kind of diary writing i picked back up as an adult.

Where to start and also, why. how to keep up


Ok so to start u need a little book to write in. Or a big one or whatever ur comfortable with just have an empty book with space for your words. That's really it. You can't really do writing a diary wrong, since ur just writing down what you want to. Oh also if you want to have a really pretty slightly more expensive book to write in but are worried your writing isnt gonna be "good enough" for your nice new book frankly I advise you just fuck up the first page in that book to your worst ability to get over that worry. That book only gains value once you actually start using it, not being empty gathering dust in your bookcase.

Having no real idea where to start can be daunting so i'll try to make up some tips...


So when I picked it back up as an adult I wrote whenever I was commuting to work, so it was part of a (mostly) daily routine. It did mean i bitched about the cold and the other passengers a lot lol but it was a start! So it might help to give urself a specific moment of day to write a bit. And it doesnt have to be every day like sometimes u just got nothin memorable to talk about. There's no failing at this shit, if you don't write for weeks or months and you wanna pick it back up that's all good. When u pick it up again later ur just gonna be more curious like "ooh i wonder what happened that I wrote htis month". or conclude you sure hated how cold it was in trains. Can't go wrong


Oh yeah as is obvious from my pages I also decorate the hell out of them. It's just kind of relaxing and its chaotic and chromatic because I like those things. I like to overlap them and they all fit together. I also own a lot of word sheets with nonsensical poorly translated sentences so i can cut them up and make new sentences. Cos I hate hte usual "live your dreams" and "you are worht it" horseshit stickers but if that's your thing obvs don't let me stop you. It doesn't leave much space to write per page but that's cool with me. Probably a good idea too if ur intimadated by big empty white pages.

Stuff to use

  • an empty notebook. Can be any kind rly, but I usually use bullet journal type books since they've got thick paper and I like the dots for guides.
    Some websites for fancy notebooks:
  • a pen. two pens. Twenty pens all in different colours. Whatever u wanna use man. I like to use fountain pens but they can be a bitch to write with so i tend to default to gel rollers, just regular black ones. Some recommendations if u wanna use some fancier pens or some shit to decorate with (eg. fineliners):
    • Midliner Fineliners (for highlighting or drawing shit)
    • The Quirky Cup Collective Yeh I linked em above as well but they've got some pretty gel rollers.
    • Zebra Sarasa pens Come in lots of colours, are really comfy to write with and give nice thin letters, if that's ur thing.
  • Stickersssssss. I got a million of them. NGL some of them are from aliexpress. Just butterflies or ai generated shit for background stickering. Judge me its fine. I buy stickers from artists all the time, also. I recommend just grabbing stickers whenever and wherever you can (..and pay for them if theyre not free ofc) but I also got a subscription to stickii which has got some really good sticker sets that are specifically for diaries and journalers.
